Tsurugaoka Hachimangu
The spiritual heart of Kamakura, founded in the 12th century. Walk the approach, visit the vermillion halls, and take in the pond gardens that once framed the city’s political center.

Komachi-dori
A lively lane of crafts, sweets, and local snacks just beside the shrine. Sample seasonal treats, browse small shops, or simply watch Kamakura go by before continuing to the Great Buddha.

Kotoku-in — Great Buddha
The bronze Daibutsu has sat in the open air for centuries — one of Japan’s most recognizable images. Time here for photographs, a quiet look at the statue, and the option to step inside the hollow bronze if you wish.

Hasedera Temple
A hillside temple of Kannon, seasonal flowers, and views toward the coast. In spring the grounds fill with cherry blossoms; in early summer, hydrangeas. The gardens and observation decks are among Kamakura’s most photogenic corners.

Hokoku-ji Bamboo Grove
A quieter close to the day: a path through thousands of bamboo stalks, stone lanterns, and optional matcha in the temple tea house. A favorite for travelers who want a moment of stillness before the drive home.
